I loved this movie! I had always wanted to see the old Sherlock Holmes films, now I am a serious fan of Basil Rathbone. Highly recommended.

Not quite as great as the original but still great! In addition to having Sonny Chiba, which every movie -- even Shakespearean comedies -- should, it features great action, score, and "grindhouse" 70's Yakuza sleaze galore!

Funeral Home

This is a very good psycho-drama/murder mystery. The producers of this movies took all their inspiration from Hitshcock's movie "Psycho" but for this they can be forgiven because the movie is very well done. There is one well known Canadian actor ( Barry Morse ) in the film. The whole story starts when a young woman travels to her grandma's house to help granny convert the house to a bed and breakfast after grandpa has mysteriously disappeared. The house used to be a funeral home so it just seems natural that it would make a good B and B, nothing attracts guest more than a sign out front saying Funeral Home. So anyhow guests start to disappear and a nice young rookie cop starts to investigate. I was particularly pleased when the obnoxious salesman and his slutty girlfriend went over the cliff. There are some red herrings designed to throw you off the trail of the killer , such as the dimwitted handyman (like we really thought it was him ) and the black cat that makes a cameo throughout the film (what was up with that? ) Grandma seems to be a nice old girl, a bit of a Jesus freak though and she is always harping on about what a saint grandpa was although the town folk seem to remember him as a miserable violent drunk. The story unfolds well and you will not lose your attention , however if you ever feel the need to ask your grandma " who are you hiding in the basement ? " it might be time to check her meds. The finale of the movie is quite violent with a surprise twist. Good entertainment for the children and grandma. I am capt. hero and I approve of this review.

Rock Rock Rock

A lot of the younger folks will think this movie is kinda corny ( also older folks ) but this movie does star a young Tuesday Weld playing the teenage girl Dori who is such so darn cute that you want to pick her up and give her a big hug and pinch her cheek. The plot of the movie isn't to complicated, after Dori's totally square father finds out she spent her allowance on candy, ice cream, sodas and Elvis Presley songs on the juke box he cancels her charge account at the dress shop. Of course Dori needs a new dress to wear to the big dance so she embarks on a hare brained loan sharking scheme to raise money. The fact that she is just a pretty girl and a Stepford wife in waiting means she is no good at math and screws up. To relieve the tension of the plot there are numerous performances of big name rock and roll stars of the era. Dori lip sync.'s a couple of Connie Francis tunes rather badly but you can forgive her because she is just so darn cute. Well to everyone's surprise she gets the new dress and it is off to the big dance. There are quite few good performances by Frankie Lyman, Chuck Berry , the Moonglows and LaVerne Baker in the movie. Alan Freed who was a big time disc jockey and rock show promoter before he was scape-goated by the record and radio industry during the payola scandals ( which ruined his career ) also appears in the picture. Overall this is a fairly good example of teen rock and roll movies which were popular at the time. Good clean fun.

Ali Baba and the Seven Saracens

This movie is one of the most poorly edited movies I have ever seen! Manos still wins, however! Plot is pretty clear even with the jumpiness, but not that interesting in my opinion. I was expecting something different or maybe just to much. Action takes forrrrreeever to get started, and is poorly choreographed! Ali Baba just seems to stand there and everyone else does the work (If you have ever seen Colossus and the Headhunters you will understand). I would not recommended this movie unless you like horrible Bollywood films, without all the singing and dancing!
